About Us
Our Mission
The Merrill Palmer Skillman Institute (MPSI) mission is to develop evidence-based programs and interventions for children and families that address the diverse challenges faced by today’s youth and to establish best practices that can be adopted by fellow institutions serving children.
Our Faculty and StaffMPSI staff and faculty are dedicated to improving our understanding of how young children develop and react to their environmental conditions, as well as promoting optimal child development and resilience in urban children. MSPI sponsors interdisciplinary faculty, many with joint appointments in departments across Wayne State University.
The MPSI staff serve many functions including research assistance and engagement with the community.
Our Advisory BoardsMPSI volunteer advisory boards meet four times a year to provide guidance, to assist MPSI in its mission of community engagement, and to help in private fund-raising activities.
