Society has a strong interest in making sure the tens of thousands of children in Michigan with incarcerated parents make it . Working together, WSU, volunteers, inmates and prison staff can make a difference for little or no money. Joan Blount, of the Merrill-Palmer Skillman Institute at Wayne State University, served as the group's volunteer instructor. .

Wayne State University’s Children’s Bridge and the Merrill Palmer Skillman Institute announced the availability of the Children’s Bridge doctoral graduate fellowship for the recruitment of talented students who are interested in pursuing a doctoral degree in an area related to urban children’s issues. The Children’s Bridge will grant two 3-year fellowships for the entering graduate class of 2009. The deadline was March 2, 2009.
